Volunteer Sew-A-Thon

Join Craft Land, Brest Friends and Brother Sewing Machines in supporting breast cancer awareness in Dubai! The Sew-A-Thon takes place for 12 hours each day on Friday October 21st and Saturday October 22nd at Town Center. Craft Land and ARTE artisans will be on hand for the event with surprise "portion of sale" promotions!

Here's how you can help:

Volunteers are needed for to make special cushions and bags for women undergoing breast cancer treatment; the care packs will be distributed via Brest Friends and medical networks in the UAE. We need volunteers who can use a sewing machine, but it's ok if you don't know how...we also need willing hands for cutting, stuffing, finishing etc. So mums who sew can bring along kids (or husbands or friends) who want to help too! And don't worry -- you don't need to sign up for the whole 24 hours - Sign up for as many two-hour shifts as you like!

Supplies and instruction are provided by Craft Land. Sewing machines are being donated for the event by Brother, and will be for sale afterwards with all proceeds being given to Brest Friends.

To volunteer, simply email Jennifer Haack at: jennifer@mycraftland.com or stop in to Craft Land and sign up in person. Sign up today, and encourage friends and family to join in too... All volunteers will get a goody bag for helping out, not to mention the reward of feeling great for helping someone who's going through a tough time!

Trade for Aid donations

Thank you to all who donated sewing machines and crafting supplies during our Ramadan Trade for Aid event!

This past Sunday, Jennifer and Kay delivered the donated items to Manzil School in Sharjah.
We collected and donated 8 sewing machines, a big box of yarn, a big box of tools, books patterns and so on, plus a roll of fabric. The students at Manzil were really happy to receive all the goodies, and the teacher is going to start teaching the students how to sew right away. They will be using the sewing machines for fun and profit -- we may even be able to sell some of their handmade goods in our shop in the future!

Let's Give Generously This Ramadan

Join in the spirit of Ramadan this August by donating your used sewing machine and crafting tools to the Manzil School for Special Needs in Sharjah.

This Ramadan, Craft Land is collecting used sewing machines, crafting tools and materials to donate to the Manzil School for Special Needs in Sharjah. And if you donate an old sewing machine, Craft Land will give you 10% off the price of a new sewing machine* – Craft Land’s thanks for your generosity! It's a great opportunity to upgrade to a new sewing machine, and still put an old machine to good use.

The Manzil School for Special Needs relies solely on private funding and generous donations to provide care and development to its students. The school’s main aim is to develop the students’ skills and confidence to a level that enables them to be a part of society – they call it “destination inclusion”.

Through crafting and creative activities the students learn to focus their attention and produce goods that they are able to sell, such as beaded jewellery and hand-crafted gifts. Donations of sewing machines, crafting tools and materials through Craft Land will enable the students to learn new skills and try new crafts.

So if you have an old sewing machine at the back of the cupboard, or a bunch of materials and tools you no longer use, why not have a clear out and donate them to a good cause? Craft Land only asks that all items are in good working order. For a working sewing machine, you will receive a voucher to redeem for 10% off ANY new sewing or embroidery machine at Craft Land, valid during August, 2011. You could save hundreds of even thousands of Dirhams while you help Manzil school!

Please bring items for donation into the Craft Land store where collection bins will be on display.

For more information about the Manzil School for Special Needs see www.manzil.ae

*Offer valid during August 2011 only.

Summer Program

Our summer classes are nearly here! Our regular class schedule is suspended for July & August, to make way for our special summer programming. See the schedule for children's classes, adult classes, and introducing classes for 4-8 year olds...we will have mini classes dedicated to the littlest crafters: the Wee Ones!

Children & teens (eight years old and above) will have July classes in learning how to sew on a machine, and intermediate sewing classes too with classes on sewing a super cute jumpsuit, quilted pillows and a fab tote bag. For August, there are knitting and crochet classes, and week-long Crafting Camps for handwork like cross stitch, applique and weaving.

Adults will be able to take sewing, quilting, knitting, crochet and hand embroidery, with full day classes in quilting every Saturday.
Wee Ones classes are two mornings a week in August. The little guys have many craft kits to choose from and will be able to learn some fun new craft skills.
Class sign up is available now, just come on in to Craft Land to get registered!
